FAQs

What happens to the information I provide?
All of your information is stored in our secure baby database. This means we can contact you when your baby becomes eligible for one of our studies.

How much of a commitment is signing up?
When your baby turns the right age to help in one of our studies we will contact you and tell you about the purpose of the study and what is involved. At this point, there is no obligation to participate. For most of the studies we run, we are looking to test babies between one week before to one week after their month-old birthday. If you are interested and available during that time, great. If not, it’s no big deal.

How old does my baby need to be?
This depends on the study. We recruit children from birth to 5-years-old and will contact you when your baby becomes eligible for one of our studies.

Can I bring my other children?
Of course! We have lots of toys for children to play with, and research assistants available to supervise other children.

How long does it take?
The study itself normally only takes around 10-15 minutes, however, we like to give children time to settle in and need parents to fill out some paperwork. The whole visit normally takes around half an hour.

Is there any risk to my child?
No! All of our methods are non-invasive and mostly involve playing with your children or showing them some pictures on a computer screen. You will be with your child at all times in case you have any queries or concerns.

What can you tell me about my baby?
Our studies are focused on the abilities of say, 6 month olds, in general. In order to learn about what babies can do, we pool together the results from a group of children. The individual results that your child gives us aren’t particularly meaningful.

Do I get to learn about the results of the study?
Yes, once we have tested all of the babies for the study we will send out a newsletter to parents informing them of what we found.

What do I get for participating?
We reimburse parents $20 for travel costs, cover parking on campus, and give your child a toy to take home to thank them for helping us out.

I have friends with babies, can they sign up?
Of course! A lot of our registrations come from people telling their friends and family about us. Please like us on Facebook and share any of our information with people you think might be interested.
